The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Ejimofor Opara, has defended Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s cash reward promise for every ward won by his party in the forthcoming governorship election.
Recall that on Saturday, Anambra state governor and APGA’s candidate for the governorship election, Chukwuma Soludo, announced a cash reward of 1M naira for every ward won by the party and 5M, 3M, and 2M for the top 3 wards respectively.
This announcement drew criticism from the opposition and civil society organisations, who described the move as an open inducement and a gross violation of the Electoral Act.
However, Opara says the initiative will create a sense of competition that would increase voter participation, and would help APGA’s goal of fully utilising it’s electoral strength to hit the one-million-vote mark.
