APGA Concludes Anambra LG Primaries, Drops Five Chairmen

The All Progressives’ Grand Alliance (APGA) has concluded its primary elections across the 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Anambra State ahead of the council polls scheduled for the 29th of August, 2026.

From the final list signed by APGA’s Publicity Secretary, Ejimofor Opara, and released on Sunday, 16 sitting chairmen retained the party’s ticket, while five were dropped. Those affected are Chairman of Onitsha South, Emeka Orji, Chairman of Idemili South, Amaka Obi, Chairman of Aguata, Chinueze Ofobike, Chairman of Anaocha John Ibekwe, and Chairman of Ekwusigo James Obi.

They have been replaced by Ifeanyi Onuchukwu in Ekwusigo, Ezeagu Okwey in Aguata, Iloegbunam Obichukwu in Idemili South, Moufonanya Ikechukwu in Onitsha South, and Paulinus Okafor in Anaocha.

Opara explained that the decision was meant to give others a chance to serve and bring fresh ideas into local administration.
