Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has said the state will cover the medical expenses of the former President of the Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture, Okey Akaneme.
The Anambra state Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, told newsmen this Wednesday that the decision was made during the 37th State Executive Council meeting.
Mefor says the council made the decision after reviewing the report of a fact-finding team sent to investigate the alleged brutalisation of Akaneme by officials of the Anambra State Waste Management Agency and police officers.
Akaneme was allegedly attacked and brutalized on October 11 at his residence in Onitsha, by ASWAMA officials, accompanied by two policemen from the Onitsha Central Police Station, over unpaid sanitation fees, and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Enugu.
