The Anambra State Fire Service has urged residents and property owners to regularly inspect their electrical appliances and wiring installations following a fire outbreak at the Commissioner Quarters in the Government Residential Area (GRA), Awka.
The Media and Publicity head of the agency, Chukwudi Chiketa, said the fire was caused by sparks from an electrical appliance in one of the rooms in the building, however, firefighters successfully contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building and nearby properties.
Although no casualty was recorded, household items and other properties were damaged before firefighters arrived at the scene.
Chiketa also encouraged members of the public to promptly report fire outbreaks or emergencies to the nearest fire station or contact any of the agency’s emergency numbers to ensure a swift response.
