Akwa Ibom Govt Denies Plans to Sell Ibom Power Company

The Akwa Ibom State Government has debunked a report that alleged that the administration of the state Governor Umo Eno plans to sell the state-owned Ibom Power Company.

Reports say a newspaper based in Uyo, Guide Newspaper, made the allegation but the state government describes it as false, saying that it has no plans to sell the power plant.

The Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, debunked the claims this Thursday, urging the public to disregard the publication, saying it contains a string of false, malicious and wholly unfounded allegations.

He said that at no time has the government approved the sale of Ibom Power Company, whether as scrap or otherwise. He explained that the administration is instead focused on repaying the $9 million loan obtained from Afreximbank by the company as part of efforts to reposition the facility for sustainable operations.
