Aisha Yesufu calls on Wike to intervene in teachers strike

A political activist, Aisha Yesufu, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to intervene in the ongoing teachers’ strike, warning that continued inaction could cripple basic education in Abuja.

Her remark follows the decision of FCT chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, to commence an indefinite strike this Monday, over unresolved welfare issues and the non-implementation of a committee report submitted since August 2025.

Yesufu, made a post via her X handle this Monday, describing the situation as a preventable crisis, saying that teachers do not embark on strikes without being pushed to their limits.

She also warned that the impact of the strike would fall most heavily on schoolchildren rather than government officials. She called for urgent action to prevent long-term damage to the education system.
