The Attorney General of the Federation, AGF and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, has denied claims that a United States District Court authorized one Louis E. Williams to seize $21m from Nigeria’s account with JP Morgan.
Fagbemi denied the claims on Wednesday, as he criticized the reports for failing to seek the ministry’s response.
He also challenged the media outlets that spread the claim to provide a copy of any US court order related to the alleged seizure.
Recall that there was publication by Peoples Gazette and some others in 2023, alleging that a US District Court had authorized a certain Louis E. Williams to seize $21m from Nigeria’s account with JP Morgan.
But Fagbemi clarified that the court only refused Nigeria’s preliminary motion to dismiss the complaint against it on the ground of sovereign immunity.
