The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized the Federal Government’s plan to reintegrate former insurgents into society, describing it as a dangerously soft approach to tackling terrorism.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, spoke on Sunday saying comments by some government officials referring to insurgents as “brothers” and “prodigal sons,” alongside plans for their reintegration, reflect a troubling misunderstanding of the security threat they pose.
According to the ADC, responding to terrorism with what it called soft language and policies that appear to prioritize rehabilitation over justice could put lives at risk.
The party also expressed concern over the lack of transparency surrounding the reintegration programme, questioning how beneficiaries are selected and whether adequate safeguards exist to protect affected communities.
