The African Democratic Congress (ADC) as well as the Labour Party faction led by Nenadi Usman, have criticized President Tinubu’s plan to use more than ₦712 billion to renovate the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
The National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, says the project is a waste of public funds and shows the government is out of touch with the realities Nigerians are facing.
The ADC says spending ₦712 billion on an already upgraded airport doesn’t make sense when schools are underfunded, healthcare is unaffordable, and many Nigerians are suffering due to poor government decisions.
On the other hand, the Senior Special Adviser (Media) to the Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party, Ken Asogwa, says the funds would have been put to better use to improve the quality of life of ordinary Nigerians.
Asogwa described it as wicked and satanic to prioritize a $475 million airport renovation at a time when 63% of Nigerians are classified as multidimensionally poor, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
