World Cup 2026: Mbappe Scores Two Goals, Sets Record As France Ease Past Sweden In Round Of 32 Tie

Kylian Mbappé broke the record for most goals in World Cup knockout matches as his two goals led France to a 3-0 win over Sweden at MetLife Stadium on Tuesday.

Mbappé’s first goal means he has scored nine goals in nine knockout stage games at the FIFA World Cup , overtaking Brazilian player Leônidas and Ronaldo

His sixth goal of this year’s tournament tied him with Messi in the race for the Golden Boot.

The victory,which is  France’s biggest in a World Cup knockout match since their 3-0 win over Brazil in the 1998 final, sets up a round-of-16 matchup against Paraguay on July 4 in Philadelphia.
