The state-run Global New Light of Myanmar says that at least 236 people have been confirmed dead, and 77 people remain missing after Typhoon Yagi caused severe flooding in several regions of Myanmar.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says that the toll could be even higher.
The OCHA says that there is an urgent need for food, drinking water, medicine, clothes and shelter, but that damaged roads and bridges as well as unstable telecommunication and internet services are hampering relief efforts.
Similarly, the Special Advisory Council for Myanmar says that it is crucial that neighboring countries engage with resistance authorities and civil society to get assistance to those most in need.
