Some youths have gathered in Ikeja, Lagos state capital, to protest against the purchase of Sport Utility Vehicles SUVs, for lawmakers at the National Assembly.

Recall that lawmakers in the House of Representatives have reportedly started taking delivery of their SUVs, while lawmakers in the Senate will receive the first batch of SUVs this week.

The protesters who gathered in their numbers this Monday say buying SUVs with public funds is insensitive especially when the majority of Nigerians are suffering.

They held placards while chanting ‘Fund education not SUVs, ‘Pay living wage not SUVs, and ‘Fund hospitals not SUVs,’ among others.

Several other Nigerians and organizations such as Social Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, have criticized the purchase of the SUVs for lawmakers.

Recall that SERAP has asked a Federal High Court in Lagos to stop the lawmakers from taking delivery of the SUVs pending the hearing and determination of the applications for injunction filed by the organization.
