World Cup Failure Still Hurts, Says Chelle Amid NFF Contract Negotiations
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has once again apologised to Nigerians for the national team’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while expressing his desire to remain in charge beyond the expiration of his current contract.

Chelle, who was appointed in January 2025, has less than six months remaining on his deal with the Nigeria Football Federation.

He reflected on Nigeria’s World Cup disappointment following the Super Eagles’ triumph at the Unity Cup in London, where they defeated Jamaica 3-0 in the final on Saturday.

Chelle also recently confirmed that discussions with the NFF over a new contract remain ongoing, although he maintained that his primary focus is on coaching responsibilities and upcoming fixtures.
