UK’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced the countries plans to introduce free digital Identification for both nationals and those residing in the country.
Starmer made the announcement this Friday, saying that the new digital ID will serve as the central civilian registry and will serve as a means of proving a person’s right to work.
He says the ID would serve as the main means of identification instead of the use of driving licences, passports, and utility bills as means of identification, as is applicable in the UK now.
He also says the move will make it simpler to apply for services like driving licences, childcare, and welfare, while streamlining access to tax records and curbing illegal migration.
