The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has invited a female traveller, Favour Igiebor, for questioning after she was caught on video destroying the Nigerian Passport of her husband.
A viral video showed Favour Igiebor destroying the Nigerian Standard Passport – said to belong to her husband – at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.
The NIS spokesman Kenneth Udo says it is a violation of the law and hence has launched a formal investigation and invited her for questioning.
Udo says if the allegations are substantiated, her actions would have constituted a breach of Section 10(b) of the Amended Immigration Act 2015, with corresponding penalties outlined under Section 10(h) of the same Act.
Meanwhile, the woman has apologized to the NIS for the action, as she explained that she has passed through many challenges in her marriage which prompted the action.
