9 Die, 26 Injured in Turkey Bus Accident

At least 9 people have died, and 26 are injured, after a bus traveling between cities in Turkey has crashed after swerving off a highway and slamming into an overpass pillar.

Ankara governor Vasip Şahin told newsmen this Friday that the crash occurred near the town of Polatli, 80 kilometers from the capital of Ankara.

He says the bus was traveling from the city of Izmir in western Turkey to the city of Agri, in the east of that country when the crash occured.

Although the cause of the crash hasn’t been ascertained, Şahin says preliminary information suggests that the driver fell asleep on the wheels as he didn’t attempt to use the brakes during the accident.

The injured passengers have been rushed to hospitals in Polatli and Ankara for medical attention.
