THE NIGERIA CENTRE FOR DISEASE CONTROL, NCDC SAYS 36 CASES OF MONKEYPOX HAVE BEEN CONFIRMED IN THE COUNTRY.
THE NCDC DISCLOSED THIS IN ITS LATEST MONKEYPOX SITUATION REPORT.
ACCORDING TO THE NCDC, 7 CASES OF THE DISEASE HAVE BEEN CONFIRMED IN LAGOS, 5 IN ADAMAWA, 3 EACH IN DELTA AND RIVERS, 2 EACH IN CROSS RIVER, FCT, KANO, BAYELSA, EDO, IMO, AND PLATEAU, WHILE ONE CASE EACH HAS BEEN CONFIRMED IN NASARAWA, NIGER, OYO AND ONDO.
THE AGENCY NOTES THAT FROM JANUARY 1 TO JUNE 12, 2022, THERE HAVE BEEN 141 SUSPECTED CASES SO FAR.
ACCORDING TO THE NCDC, MONKEYPOX IS A RARE VIRAL ZOONOTIC INFECTIOUS DISEASE TRANSMITTED FROM ANIMALS TO HUMANS THAT OCCUR SPORADICALLY, PRIMARILY IN REMOTE VILLAGES OF CENTRAL AND WEST AFRICA, NEAR TROPICAL RAINFORESTS.
