Supreme Court Fixes Date for Buhari, Malami’s case

The Supreme Court has fixed May 26th to hear a suit filed by President Muhammmadu Buhari and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, cancelling the provisions of Section 84 (12) of the Electoral Act 2022.

The Supreme Court has also granted Rivers State’s request to join in President Buhari’s suit against Section 84 (12) of the Electoral Act.

Justice Muhammad Dattijo adjourned the matter following the concession by Buhari’s lawyer Lateef Fagbemi that the speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly and Attorney General, Rivers State, be joined as parties.

Recall that Buhari and Malami filed a suit on April 29 before the apex court through a group of private lawyers, including Lateef Fagbemi, hired by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation.

In the suit, the National Assembly is listed as the sole defendant.
