WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY, WHICH BECAME AN ANNUAL EVENT IN 1973, IS THE BIGGEST INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, LED BY THE UNITED NATIONS ENVIRONMENT PROGRAMME, UNEP.
THE DAY IS CELEBRATED ON JUNE FIFTH EVERY YEAR TO RAISE AWARENESS ON THE DEGRADING ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS, AND TO ENCOURAGE PEOPLE GLOBALLY TO TAKE POSITIVE ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIONS, TO HELP CREATE A BETTER FUTURE.
PROFESSOR SOLUDO, WHO SPOKE THROUGH THE COMMISSIONER FOR ENVIRONMENT, ENGINEER FELIX ODIMEGWU, URGED THE PEOPLE TO QUICKLY REPORT ANY ACTIVE EROSION SITE, BEFORE IT BECOMES SERIOUS ISSUE, AND WARNED PEOPLE TO DESIST FROM BUILDING ON DRAINS AND WATERWAYS TO AVOID FLOODING
THE 2022 WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY HAS THE THEME “ONLY ONE EARTH”, WITH THE FOCUS ON “LIVING SUSTAINABLY IN HARMONY WITH NATURE”.
