The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed Abubakar Gombe as the party’s National Chairman, thereby bringing an end to the lingering leadership crisis in the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The unanimous judgment was delivered on Wednesday, by a three-member panel led by Justice Fadawu Umaru. They set aside the judgment of the Federal High Court which had recognized Shehu Gabam as National Chairman of the party.
Justice Umaru held that the Federal High Court erred in law by entertaining the matter, saying that the Supreme Court had already settled the leadership dispute in favour of Gombe in its judgment of May 22, 2026.
The SDP presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, reacted to the judgement, praising the appeal court for effectively removing the legal foundation of the leadership crisis in the party.
