Saudi Arabia has vowed to respond firmly to attacks by a rebel group in Yemen called the Houthis, after they wounded 13 people in an assault using ballistic missiles and drones.

Military sources in Saudi say a Houthi strike in western Yemen killed eight government soldiers on Monday. 

In response to this, the Saudi civil defence issued air-raid alerts in six regions early this Tuesday. 

Saudi Arabia also responded with more than 50 strikes. They said they would deal with the attacks to protect the sovereignty of the Saudi Kingdom and would take “all necessary operational measures to deter what they described as the hostile and extremist approach of the Houthis. 

Reports say the Houthis have been engaged in renewed fighting with government forces from Saudi Arabia since Yemen’s civil war was reignited in July.

Recall that they declared a maritime blockade on the capital, Riyadh and began targeting the oil infrastructure of Saudi Arabia, which is the world’s leading crude exporter, causing oil prices to rise above the $100 threshold.
