Police Destroy Trafficking Ring, Arrest 50-year-old Suspect, Rescue 20-year-old in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command says it has arrested a 50-year-old woman, Ibekwe Nkiru, and rescued a 20-year-old female victim after uncovering a suspected transnational human trafficking scheme linked to prostitution.

The Enugu Police Spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe says the arrest and rescue were carried out by operatives attached to the Igbo-Eze South Police Division

He says the victim, who’s a native of Abia State, was allegedly deceived into resigning from her job in Aba after being promised a more lucrative employment opportunity in Senegal, which later turned out to be prostitution-related.

He also said the victim was taken by the suspect to a shrine in Alor-Agu Community in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State to swear an oath of allegiance ahead of the planned trafficking to Senegal.

Fortunately, the victim was rescued by the police, and has since been debriefed and reunited with her family, while investigations are ongoing to dismantle the entire trafficking network and apprehend other suspects connected to the crime.
