The Police in Benue State says it has arrested 46 people in connection with the blockade of the convoy of the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi.
The Benue Commissioner of Police, Cletus Nwadiogbu, said this at a press conference in Makurdi on Wednesday, also saying that the Police managed the situation professionally and prevented an escalation that could have resulted in loss of life and destruction of property.
He said the tactical decision taken by the command should not be mistaken for inaction, but that it helped in ensuring Obi’s safety as he was subsequently escorted back to the airport.
