Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, has condemned President Bola Tinubu’s administration for commencing the controversial Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project.
Obi shared his displeasure on the X social media platform this Tuesday, criticizing the government for ignoring the public outcry and continuing with a project which he says will threaten people’s livelihoods and investments of over $200 million
Recall that the Minister of Works, David Umahi, had announced that the federal government will demolish structures on the right of way of the Lagos-Calabar coastal shorelines however he included that compensation would be provided where necessary.
Nonetheless, Obi described the planned demolition as insensitive and heart-wrenching, saying that there are close to 50 abandoned federal highway projects across the country that the government can focus on rather than an expensive new highway project
He says it’s not too late to discontinue the Lagos-Calabar highway project, adding that urgent necessities are nationwide security, poverty eradication, healthcare, and education, especially for the poor and underprivileged.
