Nigeria Secures Affordable HIV Prevention At UNGA

Nigeria secures affordable HIV prevention at UNGA

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), has announced a major breakthrough in HIV prevention following a landmark price reduction of the revolutionary drug, lenacapavir.

NACA’s Director-General, Temitope Ilori, says Nigeria secured the deal at the United Nations General Assembly and the move will see the price of the HIV prevention drug, lenacapavir, go from 41.9 million naira per year to 60,000 Naira per year.

Temitope says the move will make the life-saving innovation available to millions and strengthens the country’s fight to end HIV as a public health threat by 2030.

The agreement is also supported by partners like UNITAID, Clinton Health Access Initiative, and the Gates Foundation.
