The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has commenced the distribution of relief materials to persons and communities affected by recent fire disasters in parts of Cross River State.
The agency announced this on Facebook this Tuesday, saying that the exercise was carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian Red Cross, LGA leaders and other relevant stakeholders.
The Uyo Operations Office of the agency began the distribution of relief materials to those affected by the fire disaster in Goldie market, Calabar South, Abama in Bakassi and Nyaghasang in Calabar Municipality Local Government Areas in Cross River State.
The relief materials included rice, garri, beans, vegetable oil, zinc nails, dignity packs, bags of cement, amongst other materials.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Ita Okon Nyong and Happiness James, appreciated the Federal Government and NEMA for the prompt intervention, noting that the distributed items would provide much-needed relief to victims affected by the disasters.
