The Nigerian Navy, in collaboration with other security agencies, conducted a search-and-rescue drill in Rivers to train personnel on waterways management on Thursday.
The exercise, according to the Navy, was aimed at improving the response capacity of relevant agencies in acting appropriately to emergencies within the waterways of the state.
Governor of Rivers State Siminalayi Fubara, who was represented at the event by his deputy, Ngozi Odu, welcomed the idea of collaboration among the agencies as a measure to address emergencies on the state’s waterways.
Fubara said the exercise will allow them to identify areas for improvement in their procedures and equipment, enabling them to make necessary adjustments before actual emergencies occur.
