A Family Magistrate Court sitting in Onueke in Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has sentenced 51 year-old Joseph Nguta, to a 5-year jail term with hard labor for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old minor.

Nguta who was arraigned before the Magistrate Court on a one-count charge of Sexual Assault pleaded guilty to the offense and urged the court to temper justice with mercy.

Reacting to the judgment, a legal officer with the legal department of the State Ministry of Justice, Ijeoma Aja-Nwachukwu expressed happiness over the judgment adding that the judgment would serve as a deterrent to perpetrators of such evil acts against women and girls.

Our Correspondent in Ebonyi State, Emmanuel Nnaji, reports that Ijeoma encouraged parents to always report such matters to the relevant authorities for prosecution as it will serve as a deterrent to others who may want to get involved in such crime.
