Kenya Win Bid to Host 2029 World Athletics Championship

Track and field governing body World Athletics has announced that Kenya will host the 2029 World Athletics Championships, beating off competition from London, Munich and Rome to become the first African hosts.

They made the announcement this Tuesday after a council meeting in Budapest, as they also announced that the 2031 championships will be held in Munich.

World Athletics president Sebastian Coe said it was not an easy decision for the Council and that they were fortunate to have had four outstanding bids for 2029 and 2031

He commended Kenya, saying they presented a compelling and an emotional bid, emphatically demonstrating that this is their moment to supercharge the development of the sport in Kenya and across Africa.

He said the councils’ decision means they are now able to deliver the World Athletics Championships in Asia, Africa, and Europe over its next three editions.
