Israel has urged Russia to protect “all its citizens and all Jews” following reports that a large mob shouting anti-Semitic slogans have stormed a Dagestan airport.
Videos making the rounds on social media show an angry crowd running through the airport in Makhachkala seeking people arriving on a flight from Tel Aviv.
Dagestan republic’s health ministry says twenty persons have been injured, including some police officers.
However, Russia’s aviation agency, Rosaviatsia says security forces have brought the situation under control as sixty alleged mob participants have been arrested, while the airport has been shut until Tuesday.
Dagestan’s Governor Sergei Melikov has also condemned the mob invasion of the airport, in a post on Telegram.
