INEC, group decry low voter registration turnout in South-East

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has criticized the low turnout in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Enugu State.

Additionally, a pro-democracy and good governance advocacy group, the Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy and Development Nigeria, (FENRAD)- has also decried the low turnout of Southeasterners in the ongoing CVR exercise by INEC.

The Head of Department, Voter Education and Publicity, INEC, Enugu office, Rex Achumie, told newsmen on tuesday that only 1,801 registered in the past 15 days of the in-person CVR exercise in the area.

Achumie says that the 1,801 comprised 896 males and 905 females, saying that the average state record is about 25,000 fresh registrations in the same period.
