The Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, has commissioned the newly constructed 3-kilometre Ozu-Inyaba, Ozubulu-Ihembosi Road in Ekwusigo Local Government Area, complete with street lighting.

The road was constructed by the outgoing Mayor of Ekwusigo Local Government Area, Chimezie Obi.

The commissioning ceremony, held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, attracted several dignitaries, community leaders and political stakeholders, who welcomed the governor to the local government area.

Among those present were the Commissioner for Petroleum Resources in Anambra State, Charles Ofuegbu; the Commissioner for Development, Chukwukadibia Okoye; the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for Anambra South Senatorial District, Emmanuel Nwachukwu; the APGA candidate for the Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, Vin Dike; the Majority Leader of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Ikenna Ofodeme; and the Mayor-elect of Ekwusigo Local Government Area, Ifeanyi Onuchukwu, among others.

Speaking at the event, Obi expressed appreciation to Governor Soludo for attending the commissioning, noting that the governor’s leadership style had inspired him to undertake the project.

In his remarks, Soludo described the road as a “proof of concept” of a local government system that works and delivers value to people at the grassroots.

The governor commended Obi for completing the project, which he said was constructed with subgrade stabilisation, stone base and asphalt surfacing.

According to Soludo, the project may mark the first time in about 20 years that a local government administration in the area had undertaken and completed a road construction project of such magnitude.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to taking the dividends of democracy to the grassroots, stressing that local government administration in Anambra State was functioning and had been strengthened through the state’s local government administration law to ensure its sustainability.

Soludo also disclosed that his administration had been alerted to salary arrears spanning 16 months, which he said had been owed for more than 20 years and amounted to over N400 million.

He said a fresh re-certification process was underway to verify the affected workers, after which the outstanding salaries would be paid.

The governor further described Anambra State as “one large construction site,” adding that he would tour the state to commission about 137 projects undertaken by various local government chairmen.

The commissioning of the Ozubulu-Ihembosi Road is part of ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure and bring development closer to communities across Anambra State.
