Golden Boots Football Club of Abakaliki in Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi state has defeated Green Revolution Football Club of Onueke in Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, 3 goals to 1 to emerge champions of the novelty football competition organized by a non-governmental organization, Youthhub Africa.
Speaking with journalists during the grand finale and closing ceremony of the tournament in Pa Ngele Oruta township stadium in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state field officer of Youthhub Africa Augustine Onwe said the soccer tournament was used as a platform for ending violence against women and girls in that state.
Onwe said the tournament was targeted at using interest sports activities, particularly football, as a means of bringing men and youth males towards ending gender-based violence especially as it relates to violence against women and girls in Ebonyi state.
According to Onwe, there is an urgent need to increase the level of male active involvement in protecting women and girls’ rights as well as shielding them from both domestic and other forms of abuse and violence.
Our correspondent in Ebonyi state, Emmanuel Nnaji, reports that the coach of golden boots football club, Chukwu-Agha Obinna and the coach of green revolution football, Chibuike Francis expressed satisfaction with the officiating of tournaments despite the disagreements encountered in the finals.
