The President of France, Emmanuel Macron has announced that his country will withdraw its ambassador and troops from Niger.
Macron said this in a televised interview on Sunday, saying in the next hours their ambassador and several diplomats will return to France
He says military cooperation is “over” and that 1,500 French troops stationed in the country will withdraw in “the months and weeks to come” with a full pullout “by the end of the year”.
Recall that there has been pressure and protests from the people of Niger for France to exit the country, following the military coup in July that overthrew democratically-elected President, Mohamed Bazoum.
