Human rights activist and lawyer, Femi Falana, has written to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, demanding that the suspension placed on the senator representing Bauchi Central in the Senate, Ahmed Ningi, be lifted.

Falana, who is Ningi’s lawyer, also gave Akpabio a 7-day ultimatum to reinstate Ningi or risk being dragged before the Federal High Court.

Recall that on March 12, the Senate sent Ningi on three months suspension over his claim that the 2024 budget was padded to the tune of N3.7tn.

However, Falana says the process of Ningi’s suspension was illegal and unconstitutional and Ningi was only expressing his fundamental human right of freedom of speech when he made the comment about the budget.
