The Director General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Zubaida Umar, has called on public and private institutions, humanitarian and non-governmental organizations as well as traditional institutions and faith based organizations to support the proactive efforts of the federal government in mitigating the impact of flooding in Anambra state.
Umar made the call in Awka, on Wednesday, at the flag-off of the 2024 Flood Early Warnings Sensitisation Exercise.
She listed the Local Government Areas in Anambra State that are under high and moderate flood risk, including; Ogbaru, Anambra East, Anambra West, Ayamelum, Idemili North, Onitsha North, Nnewi North, Idemili South, Onitsha South, Ihiala and Ekwusigo.
On his part, the Governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo, who was represented by his Deputy, Onyekachukwu Ibezim assured that the government will collaborate with NEMA to ensure that people in flood-prone areas in the state are well enlightened to avoid casualties and preventable damages.
