EFCC Explains Freeze On Osun Government Account
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has explained why it froze the Osun State Government’s account, saying the action was taken to prevent the alleged diversion of public funds.

The commission posted the explanation on its official handle on Wednesday evening saying it had been investigating the Osun State Government since March 2026 over the alleged fraudulent handling of Ecology Funds, Intervention Funds and Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) allocations amounting to about N11 billion.

The commission said the ongoing investigations of the state government would not have warranted freezing the account but that they then noticed movement of huge funds from the accounts to different suspicious accounts since August 2, 2026.

It said it had to stop the suspicious activities by freezing the account in order to save public funds from being looted.
