Court orders Ondo to pay N25m over missing child in orphanage

An Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure, has ordered the state government to pay a sum of 25 million naira in damages to Opeyemi Adegboyega over the disappearance of her child from a state-owned juvenile home.

The judgment was delivered by Justice Osadebay, and was made available to newsmen this Tuesday.

Adegboyega had sued the Ondo State Government over the disappearance of her three-month-old son from the custody of one of the state’s juvenile homes in Akure, under the Ministry of Women Affairs, while she was receiving treatment for depression and schizophrenia at the Ondo State Neuropsychiatric Hospital.

In the judgment, the court held that the disappearance of the child from the custody of the Ondo State Juvenile Home, was caused by negligence, and ordered that a total of 25 million naira be paid to Adegboyega for the damages.
