Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) to refrain from attempts to use security agencies to harass or illegally detain members of opposition platforms.
The former Vice President said recent revelations suggesting potential suppression of voices and trumped-up allegations against opposition figures are deeply troubling.
He stated this against the backdrop of an alarm raised by one of his campaign spokespersons, Daniel Bwala, over plots to arrest and detain him for criticising the APC-led government.
Bwala made the allegation on his X (formerly twitter) handle.
However, Atiku, in a statement from his media office, said arresting or silencing members of the opposition based on contrived charges is an affront to the principles of democracy as well as grave injustice to the people who rely on the system for representation and justice.
He added that the commendations the administration he served received was because it was always able to listen to divergent opinions and to disagree without being disagreeable.
