The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Ama, has introduced a new monitoring mechanism to strengthen oversight of police checkpoints, patrol teams and other operations across the state.
The spokesperson for the command, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the initiative follows feedback received by the commissioner during his recent Anambra Security Stakeholders’ Interactive Sessions across the three senatorial districts.
Ikenga said under the new strategy, the Command’s Operational Control Rooms will maintain closer oversight of patrol formations and checkpoints, with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Team Commanders expected to account for the activities of personnel deployed to strategic locations.
Ikenga also called on the public that to support this initiative by reporting incidents of extortion, harassment or other unprofessional conduct through the Command’s established communication channels
Ikenga said the mechanism was aimed at strengthening effective policing, accountability and professionalism, while eliminating extortion, harassment and other forms of abuse against members of the public by police personnel.
