The Anambra State Police Command has launched a manhunt for some yet-to-be-identified assailants who killed two police personnel at Uga Roundabout in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State late on Thursday.
The Anambra State police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident to newsmen this Friday saying the hoodlums, who disguised themselves in military uniform and seemed to be on a kidnap mission, opened fire on some police officers who were on a convoy.
Ikenga said the police-led mobile Forward Operating Base which had been on patrol of the area throughout the Christmas period moved to the scene, recovered a Lexus SUV the gang operated with, and defused an improvised explosive device found in the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the commissioner of police in Anambra state, Aderemi Adeoye has urged all officers to redouble their efforts and remain vigilant; assuring that technology would be employed to track down the criminals who unleashed the attack on Police personnel
