The Abia State Police Command said it has begun an investigation into the beheading of a 70-year-old man identified as Zachary Nmaduka, a native of Isiukwuato Local Government Area of the state.
Zachary was the campaign director to the member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal constituency, Amobi Ogah, during the last general elections.
Reports say he was attacked by about 10 unknown gunmen when he went out to drink at about 8pm, on Tuesday.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, says the police were alerted after the incident and they were able to recover his lifeless body on Tuesday night.
She says the police has intensified efforts towards apprehending the hoodlums behind such evil act and bringing them to justice.
