FG plans to lift 50m Nigerians out of poverty by 2030

The Federal Government has announced plans to lift 50 million Nigerians out of poverty by 2030 through a new initiative, the One Humanitarian–One Poverty Response System (OHOPRS).

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday at the flag-off workshop for the programme, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro, said the strategy focuses on identifying vulnerable individuals, registering them, and providing targeted support to help them transition out of poverty.

He explained that beneficiaries would be supported through skills acquisition, livelihood programmes, asset provision, and mentorship, with mechanisms to sustain growth and prevent relapse into vulnerability.

Doro described the initiative as a “national backbone” designed to integrate humanitarian relief, long-term development, and social protection.

He said the programme will align Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), state governments, and development partners, while tracking beneficiaries from vulnerability to economic stability.
