The head of Woro community in Kwara State, Umar Salihu, has said that armed bandits operated for about 10 hours in the area before security operatives arrived, leading to dozens of deaths and the destruction of several villages.
Salihu said this in a Television interview this Thursday, saying the attackers began their operation around 5pm, but soldiers only arrived at about 3am the following day.
Salihu also said the community had been left exposed after soldiers previously stationed there were withdrawn following an earlier attack on the base.
Salihu said the attackers belonged to the Mamuda terrorist group who were angry that the community rejected their ideology.
Furthermore Salihu raised concerns that sensitive information may have been compromised because he had earlier reported a threat letter allegedly sent by the attackers to security agencies.
