Former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has called on the federal government for the immediate release of a known critic of the Bola Tinubu administration, Abubakar Musa.

In a post on his verified X handle, Atiku condemned what he described as a growing pattern of repression under the Tinubu administration, following a post by Amnesty International Nigeria which disclosed that Musa was arbitrarily arrested on the evening of January 11, 2026.

He stressed that the case was not an isolated one, alleging that several Nigerians, including journalists, entertainers, school children, had been arrested, assaulted or intimidated for criticizing the President or members of his family.

Atiku also called on the government to end what he described as a sustained campaign of arbitrary arrests and intimidation against critics and journalists, while appealing to the international community to intervene.
