The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, MAN, has warned that the directive from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC to ban the production and sale of sachet alcoholic beverages by December, could cost the Nigerian economy over N1.9tn in investments.
Director-General of MAN, Segun Ajayi-Kadir, said this on Wednesday, saying the ban would hurt indigenous manufacturers and lead to loss of about 5.5 million jobs.
He also warned that an outright ban could backfire by creating a black market for unregulated and potentially dangerous alcohol.
Ajayi-Kadir urged NAFDAC to halt implementation of the ban, calling instead for the adoption of the National Alcohol Policy which he says was validated by stakeholders in October 2025.
