The Lagos State Government has insisted that the demolition of buildings at the Trade Fair Complex in Ojo was a technical exercise and not targeted at any ethnic group.
Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Olumide Oluyinka, said this in a television interview this Thursday as he dismissed claims of ethnic victimisation.
He said they had carried out similar enforcement actions in other parts of the state including Owode Onirin, Idumota, and Ikeja.
The commissioner also said the Trade Fair Management compounded the problem by leasing land to private developers without following due process.
Oluyinka said defaulters were given over a year and a half to regularise their structures before the demolitions began.
