Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has said President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to Benue State lacked compassion and failed to reflect the gravity of the tragic loss of lives.

He said via his official X handle this Thursday, says although he called for the President’s visit to Benue to offer compassion and solidarity to victims, the visit did not reflect mourning, but rather it resembled a carnival and political rally.

Obi also condemned the decision by the Benue State Government to declare a public holiday for the visit, lamenting that the day was used to organize fanfare instead of prayer or reflection.

Obi gave the example of South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, saying when he visited Mthatha after the floods in South Africa, there were no drums. He also said India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi went to the site of the recent plane crash, no one lined up to welcome him.
