Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te has said that Taiwan wants peace and dialogue with China
Lai told newsmen at the presidential office in central Taipei that Taiwan’s people loved peace, saying that war has no winners. However, he says the government must continue to strengthen the island’s defenses.
He rejected China’s sovereignty claims over the democratic and separately governed island, saying only Taiwan’s people can decide their future.
However, China calls Lai a “separatist” and has turned down his multiple offers for talks.
