The National Association of Polytechnic Students, NAPS, has issued a five-day ultimatum to the board of the Nigeria Education Loan Fund NELFUND to provide a detailed breakdown of fund disbursement to Polytechnics.

The President of NAPS, Eshiofune Oghayan and the Senate President, Oyewumi Ayomide, jointly issued the ultimatum this Wednesday, threatening to mobilise nationwide protests if NELFUND fails to reveal the breakdown of how polytechnics receive funds.

They also threatened to file petitions with the Department of State Services and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, for a full-scale investigation.

Recall that the student loan scheme has come under intense scrutiny following allegations by the National Orientation Agency that some institutions, in collaboration with banks, have been making fraudulent deductions from student loan disbursements.

However, on Monday, the Managing Director of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr debunked allegations of a missing N71 billion students’ loan, saying no money was stolen.
